Motor Vehicle Travel Anxiety

In our society, DRIVING is viewed not only as a 'privilege' but a necessity. When anxiety or disability occurs, it can affect the skills necessary for independent driving, and often, an individual's livelihood, personal life and self-concept.

Common themes expressed by individuals suffering from driving anxiety include:
1. I feel on edge when in a vehicle. I just don't drive anymore.

2. When driving, I am very concerned when people following behind are too close.

3. I find I am anxious when others drive and I am often pointing out hazards to them.

4. I get headaches and/or physical pains when I am in a vehicle.

5. I am very worried that I might be in another collision.

6. I often take alternative routes to avoid certain highways, intersections or locations.

7. Driving causes more family arguments that it did previously.
